SOLO EXHIBITION / BRAVA GALLERY / BARCELONA / 30 NOV 2022

The exhibition shows pieces created as a response to the experience of motherhood. The works are mainly made out of wallpaper, paper that belongs to interior spaces to either decorate or hide imperfections on the walls. The use of this material aims to connect the viewer to the domestic life.

The tearing inflicted on these wall-like pieces, exposes a multi-layered paper surface that works as a metaphor of time and fracture, while paradoxically still being attached to the support panel.

The wallpaper patterns with its joyful flowery motifs are interrupted by the slits, which enhance the contrast between the regularity of the patterns and the irregularity of the surfaces, where shapes vaguely resembling body organs or female body parts start to appear.

The use of ultramarine blue pigment comes after unearthing its profound meaning. Blue is the colour of the sea and the sky, of things that we cannot hold or reach, and the IKB hue represents freedom or escape to the great beyond, yet paradoxically, as Dr. James Fox says, blue is the colour of home – the Earth. Hence, this blue paint pairs with the watercolour paper for a more contemplative work.
